reflections on election.

so. this week was monumental, in so many ways. I can't even begin to express my joy in Sen. Obama's success, but I don't feel I need to, because pretty much everyone else I know feels the same way. instead, I'm going to move on to what I'm NOT happy about. despite all the success of progressives in this election, some things are very, very wrong.

such as PROPOSITION 8.

I am truly blessed to live in a state where gay, lesbian and bisexual people are given the RIGHT to marry the persons that they love. it is still so disappointing to me that the rest of the country refuses to follow in the footsteps of Massachusetts. apparently, we are so full of horrible homosexual heathens that can marry, sin is so rampant, that our state is in shambles - forced gay weddings, floods and fires, infanticide left and right. because we Massholes have done such a disservice to traditional marriage, we actually have the LOWEST DIVORCE RATE IN THE COUNTRY. and obviously, shotgun weddings between 18-year-olds are so sacred and likely to succeed.

but aside from the sarcasm, it makes me sick to think that anyone feels they can take rights away from others. how would you feel if someone told you that you can't be with the person you love? how would you feel if you were not allowed to adopt a child because of something you can't control? the argument that people "choose" to be gay is bullshit, as well. why would anyone choose to be ridiculed, mocked, devalued, made the butt of jokes and the subject of hate crimes?

and why the hell is it anyone's BUSINESS? how does it affect anyone but the two consenting adults? I am sick and tired of religion being motivation. most of all, I am sick of the LDS church. they were responsible for the failure of the ERA, and they're responsible for the passage of Proposition 8. I am sorry that people actually think love of God equates to hatred of diversity.

but damn am I happy that Amendment 48 in Colorado failed. I don't really find it appropriate to be persecuting women for miscarriages. the government needs to back the hell off my uterus.
